Inside Hotel du Cap Eden Roc, the Exclusive Hotel in the South of France Known for Glam Celeb Parties
celeb worthy stays

If a celebrity is headed to the South of France, you can probably guess where they’re going to be hanging their (v chic) hats: the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc. Known as one of the world’s most elegant, exclusive, and expensive hotels, this 5-star resort is where the rich and famous have stayed and played along the French Riveria for over 150 years. It’s not easy to get in—actually, it’s notoriously difficult to snag one of their 118 rooms and well-equipped suites, especially during the peak season as an, ahem, normie. But, if you can get a reservation, it’s a one-way ticket to joining the It Crowd.

Originally built in 1869 as a place for writers to unwind and seek inspiration, the sprawling chateau (no like, it’s built on 22 acres of coastline) opened as a hotel in 1889, immediately catering to ~society’s elite~. It’s been a summer hotspot ever since for anyone with chunks of change to blow, from Pablo Picasso to Beyonce. And when I say “chunks of change,” I’m talking serious cash: the most luxurious suite, the Eden-Roc, which has a 200-square-meter terrace overlooking the water, goes for up to $12,000 per night, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

And rates are only going up.

People can call the Mississippi Hotel & Lodging Association’s reservation office at 888-388-1006 to find available rooms and rates.

SF hotel industry to hire 1,200 employees in hopes of a busy tourism season

As San Francisco leaders make plans to revive the Union Square shopping district, hotels in the city want to fill 1,200 jobs.

During a joint press conference Tuesday at a downtown hotel, national, state and local hospitality leaders said they have high hopes for a bustling summer tourism season as the industry makes a slow recovery from COVID-19 lockdowns.

The city’s hotel occupancy rate remains down by 24 percent compared to pre-pandemic levels, but the tourism sector is optimistic that as international travel restrictions ease up, group tourism reawakens and conferences come back to the city, downtown will be vibrant once again.

To accommodate the projected uptick in visitors and conference attendees, the industry wants to recruit and retain hotel workers by providing above-average-wage jobs with benefits and career pathways.

The announcement comes on the heels of Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Aaron Peskin introducing legislation Monday that aims to turn Union Square’s vacant retail storefronts into dynamic spaces. If passed, the building code policies would change so multi-level buildings can become office spaces, restaurants and retail stores all at once.

“The challenges facing downtown require us to imagine what is possible and create the foundation for a stronger, more resilient future,” Breed said.

After roughly 18 months of lockdown restrictions, San Francisco’s 200-plus hotels lost a large portion of their 25,000-person workforce — at the pandemic’s peak, the industry lost about 70 percent of its workers. Today, the workforce is about 75 to 80 percent of what it was before the pandemic, said Hotel Council of San Francisco president & CEO Alex Bastian.

“We are looking at really growing again, we’re looking at bringing back this community to the position it was before and to take it even further than that,”

How to book cheaper holidays, and other tips

At a time of high inflation all around the world, booking your holidays can feel like more of a strain on your budget than ever. But some simple and often overlooked changes in your booking strategy can cushion the blow.

1. Start with your transport habits. If you expand your travel search to more distant departure airports, new and possibly cheaper flights will show.

In places where there are railway connections to the airport, the train journey to the airport is included in many package tours – “Rail & Fly” – so you only have to put up with the longer journey. That should be less of a burden if it means you can save money.

2. Try varying your travel dates. Do they really have to be from Saturday to Saturday, or exactly 14 days? Be more flexible with arrival and departure days as well as the duration of the trip, and you can snag some neat bargains.

Also, check flights during the week and uneven travel periods like 13 or 15 days.

3. Look for children’s discounts. Many tour operators offer much reduced prices for children in certain hotels and destinations, so it’s well worth taking a closer look.

4. Dig deeper in the details of what is included in the package tour. Supposedly cheaper offers may turn out to be not such great bargains after all, for example, because hotel transfer is not included and you have to organise the 100km from the airport to the hotel yourself.

That’s why you must keep an eye on all the components of an offer when comparing package prices, from the room furnishings to the catering, to the included activities and the arrival and departure.

5. Try to be more flexible on flight times. Of course, no one likes to

Three Palm Beach hotels make Travel + Leisure’s list of best in Florida
The White Elephant was named the No. 1 Best Resort in Florida by Travel + Leisure's readers.

The White Elephant was named the No. 1 Best Resort in Florida by Travel + Leisure’s readers.

Three Palm Beach hotels are among Florida’s best — and one of them, the White Elephant, is among the top hotels around the globe, according to Travel + Leisure’s annual awards announced Tuesday.

The White Elephant, The Colony and the Four Seasons earned honors in the New York-based magazine’s 2022 World’s Best Awards, which are based on the results of an annual readers’ survey covering such topics as hotels, cruise lines, and U.S. and global destinations.

Award-winners reflect “excellence in hospitality” at a time when “travel continues to rebound and people are looking for new trip ideas and inspiration,” Travel + Leisure Editor-in-Chief Jacqui Gifford said.

The White Elephant, which debuted in November of 2020 with 32 rooms and suites, earned positions in three categories.

It took the No. 1 spot in “The 15 Best Resorts in Florida” and ranked No. 2 in “The 15 Best Resorts in the Continental U.S.” (just behind No. 1 Pickering House Inn in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire). And in “100 Best Hotels in the World,” the White Elephant earned the No. 19 spot.

The trio of wins “is a true testament to our amazing team at the property for providing such memorable guest experiences,” said Khaled Hashem, president of White Elephant Resorts, which also includes five hotel properties in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
