Calling all astrology lovers and space fanatics! Mark your calendars for April 8, 2024, when a total solar eclipse is slated to travel over North America. The rare celestial phenomenon will hit these states (in this order): Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. (Plus, small portions of northwest Tennessee and southeast Michigan will also be able to witness the total solar eclipse.) And there are still hotels with availability in the path of totality for this 2024 solar eclipse.

Before diving in any further, though, it’s important to know the basics of what constitutes a total solar eclipse (and why it’s such a cool phenomenon). According to astrologer Ryan Marquardt, a solar eclipse “occurs during a new moon, when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun. The moon blocks the sun’s light, which creates a shadow effect that makes the sky look darker as the moon’s shadow is cast onto Earth.”

From a spiritual perspective, solar eclipses “symbolize powerful twists of fate, often related to new beginnings since they occur during the new moon phase,” explains Marquardt. As such, eclipses “can be a massive catalyst for growth, because we’re often forced to adjust to the changes they bring.”

The upcoming April 8 solar eclipse is especially important since it’s considered a total solar eclipse. This means that the moon will completely cover the sun and the sky will darken for anyone who

Kittery outlets plaza to be demolished for new project

KITTERY, Maine — The Outlets at Kittery will be razed to make way for a new 107-unit apartment building, a 119-room hotel and a 6,000-square-foot commercial space for a restaurant, a multi-phase project set to mark a new chapter for the Route 1 corridor.

Two International Group, a Portsmouth commercial real estate company and the owner of the 283 U.S. Route 1 site next to the Kittery Trading Post, received unanimous final approval from the town Planning Board on Thursday night to demolish the existing Outlets at Kittery, which is one of several shopping centers on Route 1.

First proposed in April, the plan aligns with the town’s adopted 2015-2025 comprehensive master plan, a blueprint calling for the enhancement of the Route 1 corridor with new housing and the redevelopment of longstanding commercial properties, among other priorities.

The developer plans to construct the 119-room hotel first, followed by the five-story apartment complex and then the 6,000-square-foot commercial building. The future tenant of the hotel has not been announced by Two International Group, and the business has yet to determine the occupant of the future restaurant space.

The development is expected to be constructed and occupied in 2025, according to plans filed with the town.

SD County officials respond to flooding victim hotel mix-up

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – County officials say an address search is to blame for a hotel mix-up for some flooding victims.

“I wake up in the morning. It feels like I’m hit by a bus. My body just hurts,” said Xochitl Delgado.

For Delgado, the stress is not letting up.

More than three weeks ago, floodwaters swamped her rented, Logan Heights home, destroying the belongings of her family of six, including her three children.

As county officials took over the hotel voucher process for flood victims, she was sent a text message Monday with the name and address of their new hotel, the Hotel Primera in San Ysidro. When she and her daughter went to look at it Tuesday afternoon, they were told it had been shuttered since June.

Delgado says a county worker told her it was a mix-up and other flood victims had been sent the wrong address. She was then told the booking was for the apartments next door, at the San Ysidro Studios.

When she returned to the area Tuesday night, she says she didn’t feel safe.

“There was already police outside. People roaming around the area,” said Delgado.

Sources tell us squatters at the shut-down hotel have led to reports of criminal activity.

In late January, one man was killed, and two others were injured in a triple shooting near the hotel.

“It wasn’t somewhere I wanted to take my kids to,” said Delgado.

Delgado left and checked into a motel in Mission Valley, paying out of pocket.

“I have no savings left. I’m living paycheck to paycheck, after losing everything,” said Delgado.

Delgado said later that night, alone in her vehicle, she reached a breaking point.

“I started crying. I broke down, screaming in my car, asking the Lord to help me,” said

TikToker exposes appalling resort in Cancun with fake booking photos
TikToker complains about cancun resort
A TikToker possibly exposed a resort. Pic credit: @ErineAufraiche/TikTok

Planning an upcoming vacation is supposed to be fun and exciting for people with wanderlust.

Narrowing down options and deciding on Cancun gives travelers much to look forward to and get excited about.

Although Cancun is recognized as a gorgeous city in Mexico with beautiful beaches, powdery white sand, and vibrant coral reefs, some resorts aren’t worthy of having guests.

YouTube video player

TikToker @ErineAufraiche shared a video opening up about the worst resort experience she recently had in Cancun.

The block text caption at the top of her video boldly says, “Do not stay at this resort in Cancun!”

Get updates on the latest posts and more from Monsters and Critics straight to your inbox.

According to this brutally honest TikToker, her time at this particular spot was a total scam. These are the details.

Cancun resort gets exposed

Erin started her video by explaining that the power at the resort was turned off for more than 10 hours straight.

She scanned over the balcony area with her camera to reveal the dirty hot tub with a weakly rumbling motor.

She claims she asked the hotel employees if they’d come to clean it multiple times. Even though they agreed to, they never made it happen.

After that, Erin showed off the “gross and moldy” curtains hanging up in the hotel room.

The curtains, which were supposed to be pure white, were covered in unsightly streaks of mold, dust, and grime.

To make matters worse, when she used her camera to scan over the hotel room’s ceiling, many small bugs were scattered across it.

After walking down the hotel’s spooky-looking staircase to get outside, Erin revealed

Bellevue City Council approves issuing bonds for indoor waterpark, hotel project

The City of Bellevue is looking to make a big splash by bringing in a 100,000-square-foot indoor waterpark.

The heated, year-round aquatic facility is planned northwest of the U.S. Highway 34 and U.S. Highway 75 interchange, along with three hotels.

The waterpark would have a retractable roof and include an arcade for gamers, said Harrison Johnson, Bellevue director of community development.

It would be modeled after Epicwaters in Texas. The closest large indoor waterpark, the Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin, is only 76,000 square feet, he said.

Swimmers play and refresh themselves in a pool adjacent to an indoor waterpark in Texas managed by American Resort Management. Bellevue plans to build a waterpark modeled after this one.

Upon completion, the new waterpark is expected to draw visitors from a 180- to 250-mile radius. The smaller circle would include Grand Island and Kearney, as well as the Sioux City metro area in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota; Des Moines; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Manhattan, Kansas; and the Kansas City metropolitan area in Kansas and Missouri. The larger circle would reach communities such as North Platte; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Wichita, Kansas; and Columbia, Missouri.

“This will be one of the biggest attractions in the state,” Johnson said.

The city plans to have American Resort Management, which operates Epicwaters in Texas and waterparks in Florida and California, manage the Bellevue waterpark, he said.

“We build it, we own it, we contract with them to run it,” Johnson said.

Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike said the project, viewed as a whole, would grow the city’s tax base, which potentially would reduce the tax burden faced by local property owners, instead of contributing to their property tax bills.

“This is a catalyst that will drive

Was Rolex 24 at Daytona a win for area hotels? Here’s a look

DAYTONA BEACH  —  In the wake of a record-setting crowd in attendance for the 62nd running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona this past weekend, the winners weren’t confined to the road course at Daytona International Speedway.

Area hoteliers and local merchants also were basking in the glow of a successful race weekend that generated more customers and sold-out rooms at average daily rates above previous years, according to responses to an informal poll of business owners and general managers.

On the track, Felipe Nasr held off Tom Blomqvist over a heated final half hour to win the legendary 24-hour endurance race, giving the No. 7 Porsche team owner Roger Penske his first overall win in the event since 1969.

Felipe Nasr drives the No. 7 Porsche 963 to win the Rolex 24 on Sunday at Daytona at Daytona International Speedway. An inflex of race fans also generated a winning weekend for area hoteliers and merchants in Volusia County.

Although Speedway officials don’t release specific attendance figures, they reported a record crowd for the race, which unfolded against a backdrop of perfect weather.

Along the way, additional buzz was generated by the presence of A-list Hollywood star Brad Pitt, in town to film scenes for a new Formula 1 race-themed movie at the track and at other Volusia County locations that included Pappas Drive-In & Family Restaurant and Christina’s Coin Laundry in New Smyrna Beach.

Hotels report ‘bigger numbers’ for this year’s Rolex

Together, it translated into a big weekend at area hotels.

“It was great, all the good stories about the race and the attendance,” said Rob Burnetti, general manager of the 212-room Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach Shores. “Similar to the track, we put up bigger numbers for the Rolex than we have

It’s the Perfect Time for Hotel Dusk and Last Window to Return

There is no better time than the present to be a visual novel and adventure game fan. The genre has experienced a sort of renaissance within the last decade, with plenty of new and creative titles like the AI: The Somnium Files series or Paranormasight keeping things fresh, and timeless classics like Famicom Detective Club or Type-Moon’s legendary Fate/stay night receiving their first ever English release. However, among the genre’s vast catalog, I am sorely missing Kyle Hyde’s Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Last Window: The Secret of Cape West.

Image via Nintendo and Cing

For those unfamiliar, the Kyle Hyde series of games are two investigation titles developed by the now defunct King and released in 2007 and 2010, respectively, for the Nintendo DS. The series focuses on jack of all trades and former NYPD detective Kyle Hyde, a man whose job is to snoop around buildings, bother the inhabitants of apartments, and fulfill the mysterious and hyper-specific contracts that his employer sends him. Nothing shady and mysterious, surely.

The main attraction of the series was its paperback novel aesthetic and gameplay style. To play the games you needed to hold the DS console sideways like a book. You would control Kyle and explore environments with the touchscreen. Characters would occupy a different screen each during dialogue, lending an air of tension and confrontation to the delicate verbal clashes and questionings. The Last Window sequel even included an in-game novel retelling the game’s story.

This novel approach (pun intended) wasn’t just a fun gimmick, as it made for two very charming and unique titles in the Nintendo DS catalog. And I don’t think that the gimmick would necessarily translate poorly into modern platforms. Undeniably, the games would require a lot of work to update them to modern standards,
