Coming Soon: A first look inside the soon-to-be Ada Hotel

“It’s been a long time in the making,” said Loren Crandell. “We know the community is super excited to open the doors. So are we.”

Crandell is the CEO of Baton Collective, which is the primary developer in Ada Village where the Ada Hotel is located.

In just a few months, renderings of the property will become reality.

“Renderings are great, you know, with technology,” said Craig Shroeder, vice president of Construction Management for First Companies. “Now, it’s real life. You can walk it and touch it.”

Ada Hotel will be 37,000 square feet, with 36 rooms across three stories.

Most rooms are one-bed kings or two-bed queens.

However, Crandell pointed out a couple unique concepts thrown in there, including a bunk room, and two others equipped with a Peloton.

When it’s done, the Ada Hotel will be the only hotel property of any kind in Ada Township.

Developers hope it’ll be a center of social life just like the original Ada Hotel. It was built just down the block before 1870, and burned down in 1942. You can read more about it’s history here:

“There’s so much rich history that comes with all things Ada Township,” Crandell said. “So, when ownership had the vision to put a hotel in the village, it was a natural connection.”

Guests will notice a nod to that history with the hotel’s two restaurants.

Teen charged with fatally shooting 15-year-old boy at hotel party in Detroit

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16-year-old boy from Detroit with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy, also from Detroit, at a hotel party.

Officials say the 16-year-old is not being charged as an adult but as an adult designated, meaning upon conviction, a judge will have the option of sentencing the respondent as a juvenile or as an adult or to fashion a blended juvenile sentence with the option of imposing an adult sentence if the juvenile is not rehabilitated.

The shooting occurred on Dec. 31, 2022, at 3:30 a.m. at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham hotel in the 5770 block of Southfield Freeway.

Officials said when they arrived at the hotel, they located the 15-year-old unresponsive in the restroom, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

EMS arrived at the scene, where they pronounced the teen dead.

Officials say the 16-year-old pulled out a gun into the hotel room multiple times, fatally shooting the teen before fleeing the scene. Detroit police arrested the 16-year-old after an investigation.

The 16-year-old has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of discharge at a building causing death, and two counts of felony firearm.

The preliminary hearing was held Tuesday (March 12) afternoon, and the teen was remanded to the juvenile detention facility.

SD County officials respond to flooding victim hotel mix-up

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – County officials say an address search is to blame for a hotel mix-up for some flooding victims.

“I wake up in the morning. It feels like I’m hit by a bus. My body just hurts,” said Xochitl Delgado.

For Delgado, the stress is not letting up.

More than three weeks ago, floodwaters swamped her rented, Logan Heights home, destroying the belongings of her family of six, including her three children.

As county officials took over the hotel voucher process for flood victims, she was sent a text message Monday with the name and address of their new hotel, the Hotel Primera in San Ysidro. When she and her daughter went to look at it Tuesday afternoon, they were told it had been shuttered since June.

Delgado says a county worker told her it was a mix-up and other flood victims had been sent the wrong address. She was then told the booking was for the apartments next door, at the San Ysidro Studios.

When she returned to the area Tuesday night, she says she didn’t feel safe.

“There was already police outside. People roaming around the area,” said Delgado.

Sources tell us squatters at the shut-down hotel have led to reports of criminal activity.

In late January, one man was killed, and two others were injured in a triple shooting near the hotel.

“It wasn’t somewhere I wanted to take my kids to,” said Delgado.

Delgado left and checked into a motel in Mission Valley, paying out of pocket.

“I have no savings left. I’m living paycheck to paycheck, after losing everything,” said Delgado.

Delgado said later that night, alone in her vehicle, she reached a breaking point.

“I started crying. I broke down, screaming in my car, asking the Lord to help me,” said

TikToker exposes appalling resort in Cancun with fake booking photos
TikToker complains about cancun resort
A TikToker possibly exposed a resort. Pic credit: @ErineAufraiche/TikTok

Planning an upcoming vacation is supposed to be fun and exciting for people with wanderlust.

Narrowing down options and deciding on Cancun gives travelers much to look forward to and get excited about.

Although Cancun is recognized as a gorgeous city in Mexico with beautiful beaches, powdery white sand, and vibrant coral reefs, some resorts aren’t worthy of having guests.

YouTube video player

TikToker @ErineAufraiche shared a video opening up about the worst resort experience she recently had in Cancun.

The block text caption at the top of her video boldly says, “Do not stay at this resort in Cancun!”

Get updates on the latest posts and more from Monsters and Critics straight to your inbox.

According to this brutally honest TikToker, her time at this particular spot was a total scam. These are the details.

Cancun resort gets exposed

Erin started her video by explaining that the power at the resort was turned off for more than 10 hours straight.

She scanned over the balcony area with her camera to reveal the dirty hot tub with a weakly rumbling motor.

She claims she asked the hotel employees if they’d come to clean it multiple times. Even though they agreed to, they never made it happen.

After that, Erin showed off the “gross and moldy” curtains hanging up in the hotel room.

The curtains, which were supposed to be pure white, were covered in unsightly streaks of mold, dust, and grime.

To make matters worse, when she used her camera to scan over the hotel room’s ceiling, many small bugs were scattered across it.

After walking down the hotel’s spooky-looking staircase to get outside, Erin revealed

Plans for new hotel, retail building along Benner Pike are taking shape. What to know

A first look at plans for a new hotel proposed along the Benner Pike was given during Tuesday’s Centre County Commissioners meeting.

Chris Schnure, Subdivision and Land Development Planner for Centre County, gave a quick presentation on the plans and the board approved putting a Memorandum of Understanding on next week’s consent agenda.

The MOU is an agreement between the county, Benner Township and the developer, Schnure said, where the developer agrees to reimburse the township for the costs associated with the township engineers processing, reviewing, inspecting and approving the engineering details of the plan. The approval of the MOU does not constitute an approval of the plan, which would go before the county’s planning commission.

The plan, “Benner Pike Tru by Hilton Hotel and Retail building” includes a 98-guest room hotel and 12,000 square foot retail building with corresponding infrastructure, like water lines, sewer, driveways and lighting, Schnure said.

“It’s located along the eastern boundary of the Benner Pike, approximately 800 feet south of the entrance to the Penn Eagle Industrial Park in Benner Township and across from the bowling alley,” he said. G.M. McCrossin, Inc. owns the property; the site that is being developed is located in the northern part of the property, he added.

Commissioner Mark Higgins said another hotel would likely bring in additional proceeds for the hotel tax and employment. Commissioner Amber Concepcion said the development is exciting.

“I’m excited to see another place to stay. I’m sure … everybody who’s coming here for graduations and football games and to visit their kids on Penn State family weekends will appreciate having another option,” she said.

Plans for the hotel were first announced in June via a press release from Hospitality Asset Management Company. The release stated the Tru by Hilton franchised property will have 98

The Best Hotels in Japan With Private Onsen Baths

When a friend of mine returned from his first trip to Japan, he couldn’t help but rave about the country. From the extraordinary food to the rich history to the hospitable locals, there really weren’t any critiques. That was at least until he had arrived at Kinosaki, an onsen (hot spring) town about two and a half hours west of Kyoto. “I just could have used a heads up, you know?”

His shock was in reference to Japan’s onsen culture, where proper etiquette calls for guests to fully disrobe with nothing but a small towel for some semblance of privacy when using what is oftentimes a communal, gender-separated facility. Bathing stark naked with strangers certainly isn’t meant for the demure and can be quite jarring for the uninitiated. But having forewarned his fiancée about the custom when she asked me for recommendations on where to go, I thought the message was going to be passed along. At last, we had a good chuckle over the mishap and he would eventually come to love the tradition of relaxing in the healing, mineral-rich waters, especially once he learned about the private options at his hotel.

While hotels with private onsens are by no means new, many properties in recent years have chosen to add the option, catering not just to modest foreigners or tattooed individuals (ink is associated with the yakuza and often prohibited), but also a growing demand by locals who prefer an exclusive experience or couples on a romantic holiday. Whichever category you may fall into, we’ve rounded up some of the best hotels in Japan with private onsen baths for your next visit.

Hotels prepare for RNC, high profile guests

MILWAUKEE – With the Republican National Convention coming to Milwaukee next year, all the guests will need somewhere to stay. Marcus Hotels and Resorts are preparing for the steep influx of visitors.

Two of the most iconic hotels in Milwaukee, the Saint Kate and Pfister Hotel, are owned by Marcus Hotels and Resorts. CEO Greg Marcus tells Wisconsin’s Afternoon News they’re looking for a “modern hotel with a classic touch.”

“The Pfister is undergoing a renovation project that started in the spring,” said Marcus. “We started on the seventh floor where our ballrooms are. Now… the guest rooms are about to go under construction in the original section. We’re redoing to tower, corridors and guest rooms. And we were just looking at new designs for the lobby. We’re not changing the lobby, but its time for new carpet.”

Marcus went on to say these changes aren’t coming because of the RNC, but its not bad timing either.

“We understand what a sold out crowd is and how to handle them,” explained Marcus. “But this is a chance for Milwaukee to be on display. (Its a chance) for Milwaukee to say ‘we can take your big convention business, do it in style and take care of your guests in a way very few people can’. With our ‘Midwest nice’.”

The RNC will take Place July 15th-18th, 2024 at Fiserv Forum. For updates, head to ‘Decision Wisconsin: Countdown to the RNC.’
